A quick but informative and thought-provoking podcast, Daniel! How one could pack such profound ideas into three minutes and forty-four seconds is absolutely mind boggling! My hats 🎩 off to you! Sir Isaac Newton was a pioneering scientist who changed the world with the discovery of gravity. He also made contributions to optics and along with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, invented infinitesimal calculus. But a fact few know about him was how religious he was. He believed in an unorthodox view of Christianity. Sir Newton’s dual interest in science and theology shows that science and religion are NOT at odds with one another but can live in harmony. It just goes to show we live in a world of false binaries where everything must be put in boxes and the world is seen in a black and white way. It’s either left or right, religious or scientific, old or young, black or white, Pro-Israel or Pro-Palestine, these are the false black and white, one or the other choices we have to make and they are ridiculous and damaging for us all! How about we reject false binaries? How about we see complexity and nuance? How about we stop over-simplifying everything? I could give you many examples of this. I am a lifelong supporter of Zionism and Palestinian nationalism. I am a pious Lutheran who strongly believes in the Separation of Church and State. I’m pro-public education and also pro-school choice. I favor more legal immigration to the United States but also building a wall on the Southern border. I revere the founding fathers and the men who served in the Continental Army but also admire King George III and respect the British and Loyalist soldiers who fought against us in the American Revolution. In the Algerian War of 1954-62 I’d have sympathized with both the French and their Harki allies and the FLN. I am all for gay marriage and LGBT rights but also support religious liberty protections and detest LGBT radicals and gender ideology. I am glad the Union won the Civil War, that secession didn’t work out and slavery was abolished but I also respect most of what the Confederacy stood for. Had I been alive during the 1944 Presidential Election I’d have voted for FDR but would’ve considered voting for Thomas Dewey too. I’d consider myself to be a square hippie. I’m quite fond of John Maynard Keynes and the New Dealers but also Frederich Hayek, Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand, and Murray Rothbard. I’m of English descent, am proud of America’s Anglo-Saxon heritage and culture and the contributions of the WASP establishment and if I lived in the past that all would’ve remained true but I would also have welcomed immigrants, fought for the emancipation of slaves and full equal rights for racial minorities, full equality for women, argued for the brotherhood of Anglos and Irishman, opposed religious persecution of Catholics and Jews, and sought societal acceptance for LGBT people and disabled people. I’d of fought everyday for an Anglo AND multicultural America. If I lived in Britain, I’d have been a proud member of the Church of England and a loyal subject of the King but also would’ve fought like the devil for Catholic Emancipation. Had I lived in Germany in the 1930s, I’d have been a patriotic German but also a member of the anti-Nazi resistance and fought against the persecution of the Jews. I’d have been proud to be German but would’ve fought the Third Reich with every fiber of my being and to revive the old Weimar Republic. I’d have proudly supported the West German state while welcoming Jewish refugees back, arguing for the full integration into German society of the mixed-race children of GIs and German women, welcomed foreign guest workers and brought them over to my home for dinner, and welcomed Turkish guest workers who chose to stay in Germany permanently. If I lived in Israel in its early years I’d be a proud Israeli while also fighting for equality for Arabs and Mizrahi Jews, assist Holocaust survivors, bring together secular and religious, and call for the acceptance of Ethiopian Jews as real, authentic members of the Jewish community.

I couldn't have put it better myself.
As for your examples, you are the very model of a nuanced, see-both-sides kind of guy. Hence why you are the perfect fit with the Guerre and Shalom ethos.
Thank you for this. Greatly respect him.
Thank-you Rachel for the kind feedback. How long have you been a subscriber?
